Biography
Stephen Schwartz is an American composer and lyricist. He wrote the music and lyrics for the stage musical Wicked (2003), which formed the basis of the films Wicked (2024) and Wicked: For Good (2025), on which he is credited for music.
He is known for the stage musicals Godspell (1971) and Pippin (1972), and for his contributions to animated films including Pocahontas (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), The Prince of Egypt (1998) and Enchanted (2007).
Schwartz has received three Academy Awards, three Grammy Awards and a Golden Globe Award.
