Biography
Steve Blackman is a Canadian television writer, producer and showrunner. He grew up in Edmonton and studied law at the University of Alberta, where he founded the annual Law Show stage production. After qualifying as a lawyer in 1998 and working briefly as a divorce lawyer, he co-created the Canadian series The Associates (2001–2002) with Greg Ball.
Blackman has written episodes of NYPD Blue (2004), Bones, Las Vegas, Private Practice, Fargo (2014–2017) and Altered Carbon. He served as co-showrunner on Private Practice and Legion, and as showrunner and creator of the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy (2019–2024). He shared a Writers Guild of America Award for the second season of Fargo and received an Emmy nomination for the series.
