Biography
Stu Linder was an American film editor. Born Stewart Bridgewater Linder on 8 November 1931 in Geneva, Illinois, he began his career as an assistant editor on films including The Misfits (1961) and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962). His first credit as editor was Grand Prix (1966), for which he shared the Academy Award for Best Film Editing.
Linder maintained a long collaboration with director Barry Levinson, editing nearly twenty films from Diner (1982) to Man of the Year (2006). Among these were Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), Rain Man (1988), Bugsy (1991), Quiz Show (1994), Sleepers (1996) and Wag the Dog (1997). He received an Academy Award nomination for Rain Man and won an ACE Eddie Award for the same film. Linder died of a heart attack on 12 January 2006 in Ridgefield, Connecticut, while working on Man of the Year.
