Biography
Terence Blanchard is an American jazz trumpeter and composer. Born in New Orleans in 1962, he studied at Rutgers University and performed with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers before establishing his own groups.
He has composed scores for more than 80 film and television projects. Blanchard is a frequent collaborator with director Spike Lee, providing the music for Malcolm X (1992), BlacKkKlansman (2018) and Da 5 Bloods (2020), the last two of which earned Academy Award nominations for Best Original Score. He has also written two operas, including Fire Shut Up in My Bones, staged by the Metropolitan Opera in 2021–2022.
