Biography
Torben Emil Meyer was a Danish character actor who appeared in more than 250 film and television roles over a career spanning 1912 to 1966. Born in Aarhus, Denmark, he began his professional stage career at the Dagmarteatret in Copenhagen in 1905 and acted in European silent films before emigrating to the United States in 1927.
In Hollywood, Meyer frequently appeared in uncredited or supporting roles in films including Casablanca (1942), Sullivan's Travels (1941) and The Great Dictator (1940). He often worked with director Preston Sturges. In 1961 he played Werner Lampe in Judgment at Nuremberg.
Meyer received the Knights’ Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog from Denmark in 1962. He died in Hollywood, California, in 1975.
