Biography

Virginie Montel is a French costume designer and art director. She began working in film in the early 1990s and has been credited as costume designer on features since 1995.

She has collaborated repeatedly with director Jacques Audiard, beginning with Read My Lips (2001) and including The Beat That My Heart Skipped (2005), A Prophet (2009), Rust and Bone (2012), Paris, 13th District (2021) and Emilia Pérez (2024), on which she also served as artistic director. Other credits include La Haine (1995), the two Mesrine films (2008) and Final Cut (2022).

Montel received César nominations for her work on the Mesrine films (2009) and A Prophet (2010), and a further nomination for Emilia Pérez. In 2018 she was elected to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
