Biography
William Hootkins was an American character actor. Born William Michael Hootkins on 5 July 1948 in Dallas, Texas, he attended St. Mark’s School of Texas and Princeton University before training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He moved to London in the early 1970s and remained based there until 2002.
Hootkins appeared in supporting roles in several major films, including Star Wars (1977) as Red Six (Porkins), Flash Gordon (1980) as Munson, Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) as Major Eaton, Batman (1989) as Lieutenant Eckhardt, and Hear My Song (1991) as Mr. X. He also worked extensively in British theatre and television, originating the role of Alfred Hitchcock in the West End production of Hitchcock Blonde. Hootkins died of pancreatic cancer on 23 October 2005 in Santa Monica, California.
