Biography

Allen Leech is an Irish actor. He was born on 18 May 1981 in Killiney, County Dublin, and studied drama and theatre studies at Trinity College Dublin. He made his professional stage debut in a 1998 production of A Streetcar Named Desire at the Gate Theatre and his first major film appearance as Vincent Cusack in Cowboys & Angels (2003).

Leech is best known for playing Tom Branson in the television series Downton Abbey (2010–2015) and reprising the role in the feature films Downton Abbey (2019), Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022) and Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale (2025). Other notable screen credits include John Cairncross in The Imitation Game (2014), Paul Prenter in Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa in Rome (2005) and Francis Dereham in The Tudors (2007). He has also appeared in Black Mirror (2011) and The Good Doctor (2017).
