Biography
Julian Fellowes is an English writer, actor, novelist, producer and film director. He was born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1949 and educated at Ampleforth College, Magdalene College, Cambridge, and the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. He began his career as an actor before turning to screenwriting.
Fellowes wrote the screenplay for Gosford Park (2001), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He created, wrote and executive-produced the television series Downton Abbey (2010–2015) and wrote the feature films Downton Abbey (2019), Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022) and Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale (2025), on which he also served as producer. He created the series The Gilded Age (2022–).
In 2011 he was created a life peer as Baron Fellowes of West Stafford.
