Biography
Andrzej Bartkowiak is a Polish cinematographer and film director, long based in the United States. Born on 6 March 1950 in Łódź, he trained at the Łódź Film School before moving to the US in 1972, where he began working in commercials.
He became known for his long partnership with director Sidney Lumet, for whom he shot 11 films between 1981 and 1993. His cinematography credits include Falling Down (1993), Speed (1994), The Devil's Advocate (1997) and Twins (1988). He later directed action films including Romeo Must Die (2000), Exit Wounds (2001), Cradle 2 the Grave (2003) and Doom (2005). A member of the American Society of Cinematographers, he received its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2025.
