Biography
Barry Malkin (1938–2019) was an American film editor. He began his career as an apprentice to editor Dede Allen and later worked as assistant to Aram Avakian. His first feature editing credit came on The Rain People (1969), directed by Francis Ford Coppola, with whom he shared a boyhood connection from Queens, New York.
Malkin maintained a long collaboration with Coppola, editing The Godfather Part II (1974, with Peter Zinner and Richard Marks), Rumble Fish (1983), The Cotton Club (1984), Peggy Sue Got Married (1986), The Godfather Part III (1990) and The Rainmaker (1997), among others. He received Academy Award nominations for best film editing on The Cotton Club and The Godfather Part III, and a BAFTA nomination for The Godfather Part II. He also edited Big (1988) and several films directed by Andrew Bergman.
