Biography
Billy Bevan (born William Bevan Harris) was an Australian-born actor who appeared in more than 250 American films between 1916 and 1952. He began his career on the stage in Australia, performing in light opera in Sydney for eight years before sailing to America in 1912 with the Pollard’s Lilliputian Opera Company.
Bevan entered films with the Sigmund Lubin studio in 1916. He later became a supporting actor and then a star in Mack Sennett comedies from the early 1920s. In the sound era he took numerous small and uncredited roles, including in Rebecca (1940), Bringing Up Baby (1938), Suspicion (1941) as Ticket Taker, Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936), The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945), Mrs. Miniver (1942) and Dracula's Daughter (1936). He died in Escondido, California, in 1957.
