Biography
Carl Lumbly is an American actor. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he studied at Macalester College and began his career as a journalist before moving into theatre, including productions with Danny Glover.
His first major television role was as Detective Marcus Petrie on the CBS series Cagney & Lacey (1982–1988). He later played CIA agent Marcus Dixon on the ABC series Alias (2001–2006) and starred as Dr Miles Hawkins in the Fox series M.A.N.T.I.S. (1994–1995).
Lumbly has voiced J'onn J'onzz / Martian Manhunter in DC animated series and appeared as Isaiah Bradley in the Marvel series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021) and film Captain America: Brave New World (2025). He was married to actress Vonetta McGee from 1987 until her death in 2010.
