Biography
Clare Douglas was a British film and television editor. Born Elizabeth Clare Douglas in Ipswich in 1944, she studied English and drama at Bristol University before completing a film programme at Hornsey College of Art. She trained as an editor at the BBC and later worked freelance.
Douglas edited the 1979 television adaptation of John le Carré’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and its 1982 sequel Smiley’s People. She collaborated repeatedly with directors including Paul Greengrass on Bloody Sunday (2002) and United 93 (2006), the latter earning her a BAFTA for Best Editing and an Academy Award nomination, and with Stephen Poliakoff on several television films. She also edited multiple works by Dennis Potter.
Douglas was married to the film-maker and journalist Michael Barnes. She died in France in 2017.
