Biography
Conrad Salinger (30 August 1901 – 17 June 1962) was an American arranger, orchestrator and composer. He studied classical composition at the Paris Conservatoire and worked as an arranger on Broadway productions from 1931 to 1938. He moved to Hollywood in the late 1930s and joined MGM, where he became the studio’s principal orchestrator of musicals under long-term contracts from 1939.
Salinger provided orchestrations for more than seventy-five films. His MGM credits include An American in Paris (1951), Singin’ in the Rain (1952), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), On the Town (1949) and Gigi (1958). He frequently collaborated with musical directors Johnny Green and Roger Edens on Arthur Freed productions.
