Biography

Dan Mindel is a South African-American cinematographer. Born Ivor Daniel Mindel on 27 May 1958 in Johannesburg, he is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, the British Society of Cinematographers and the South African Society of Cinematographers.

He began his career as a camera loader and assistant cameraman before becoming director of photography on Tony Scott's Enemy of the State (1998). Mindel has frequently collaborated with Scott and with J. J. Abrams on films including Mission: Impossible III (2006), Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

His other credits as director of photography include The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), John Carter (2012) and Twisters (2024). He served as cinematographer on Red One (2024).
