Biography
Dolly Tree (born Dorothy Marian Isbell) was an English costume designer, illustrator and actress. She began her career designing posters and programme covers for London theatre productions in the late 1910s, later working on cabaret and stage shows in London and Paris, where she became the first Englishwoman to design for the Folies Bergère.
In 1926 she moved to the United States. She created costumes for the 1928 Broadway production of Diamond Lil starring Mae West, then worked in Hollywood, first at Fox Studios from 1929 to 1931 and subsequently at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer until 1942. Her film credits include Bad Girl (1931), The Thin Man (1934), A Night at the Opera (1935), David Copperfield (1935) and A Tale of Two Cities (1935). She designed for actors including Myrna Loy, Jean Harlow, Rosalind Russell and Judy Garland.
