Biography

Frank Hagney (20 March 1884 – 25 June 1973) was an Australian actor who appeared in more than 350 Hollywood films between 1919 and 1966. Most of his roles were small and uncredited; his tall, strong build led to frequent casting as officers or henchmen. Before acting he competed professionally in cycling, boxing and rowing.

He is perhaps best known for playing Mr Potter's wordless wheelchair-pushing bodyguard in Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life (1946). Other notable uncredited appearances include Modern Times (1936), The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), The Ten Commandments (1956) and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956). Hagney also appeared in more than 70 television programmes, among them The Lone Ranger, Perry Mason and Daniel Boone.

Born in Sydney, New South Wales, he later lived in Los Angeles, where he died in 1973. He was married to Edna Shephard.
