Biography
Geraldine Chaplin is an American actress. Born on 31 July 1944 in Santa Monica, California, she is the daughter of Charlie Chaplin and Oona O'Neill. She trained at the Royal Ballet Academy in London before turning to acting.
She made her English-language film debut as Tonya in Doctor Zhivago (1965). Other notable roles include appearances in Nashville (1975), Chaplin (1992) as Hannah Chaplin, and The Age of Innocence (1993) as Mrs. Welland. She has worked extensively in Spanish and French cinema, including collaborations with Carlos Saura and Pedro Almodóvar.
Chaplin has received Golden Globe nominations for her performances in Doctor Zhivago, Nashville and Chaplin. She was in a relationship with director Carlos Saura from 1967 to 1979 and married cinematographer Patricio Castilla in 2006.
