Biography

Ivan F. Simpson, also credited as Ivan Simpson and I. F. Simpson, was a Scottish actor. Born in Glasgow, he moved to New York City as a young man and appeared on Broadway from 1906 until his death.

He began working in silent films in 1915 and became a prolific character actor in Hollywood during the 1930s, appearing in over 100 films. He played Sir Hugh Myers in Disraeli (1929) alongside George Arliss, with whom he worked on several pictures. His other credits include Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), Captain Blood (1935), David Copperfield (1935), The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1939), Random Harvest (1942) and Jane Eyre (1943). Simpson's final film was My Girl Tisa (1948). He died in New York City in 1951.
