Biography
Joe Keenan is an American screenwriter, television producer and novelist. Born on 14 July 1958 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he attended Boston College High School and Columbia University. His early novels, including Blue Heaven (1988), led to work in television after the creators of Cheers read his writing.
Keenan joined the staff of the sitcom Frasier in 1994 as an executive story editor. He advanced to executive producer by the series' final season in 2004, co-wrote the finale "Goodnight, Seattle" and contributed numerous episodes. His work on the show earned him five Primetime Emmy Awards and two Writers Guild of America Awards. He later served as a writer and producer on Desperate Housewives and co-wrote the screenplay for the animated film Flushed Away (2006).
Keenan has also written three comic novels forming a trilogy: Blue Heaven, Putting on the Ritz (1991) and My Lucky Star (2006). He received the Richard Rodgers Award and the Edward Kleban Award for his musical The Times.
