Biography
Joe Spinell, born Joseph Spagnuolo, was an American character actor. He appeared in supporting roles in numerous films of the 1970s and 1980s, including The Godfather (1972) and The Godfather Part II (1974) as Willi Cicci, Taxi Driver (1976) as the personnel officer, Rocky (1976) and Rocky II (1979) as Tony Gazzo, and Cruising (1980). He also co-wrote and starred as the lead in the 1980 horror film Maniac.
Spinell was born on 28 October 1936 in Manhattan, New York. He began his career in stage productions on and off Broadway before making his film debut in the early 1970s. He died in Queens, New York, on 13 January 1989, aged 52.
