Biography
Carl Weathers was an American actor and former professional gridiron football player. Born in New Orleans, he played college football at San Diego State University before appearing in games for the Oakland Raiders in the NFL and the BC Lions in the CFL. He retired from football in 1974 to pursue acting.
Weathers was best known for portraying Apollo Creed, the heavyweight boxing champion and rival turned ally to Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa, in the first four Rocky films (1976–1985). His other notable roles include Colonel Al Dillon in Predator (1987), Chubbs Peterson in Happy Gilmore (1996), and Greef Karga in the television series The Mandalorian (2019–2023), for which he received an Emmy nomination. He also voiced Combat Carl in Toy Story 4 (2019).
