Biography

Robert Chartoff was an American film producer. He was born in New York City on 26 August 1933 and graduated from Union College and Columbia University Law School. He began in talent management before forming Chartoff-Winkler Productions with Irwin Winkler in the mid-1960s.

Chartoff and Winkler produced Rocky (1976), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture, along with the sequels Rocky II (1979), Rocky III (1982), Rocky IV (1985) and Rocky V (1990). Their other credits include They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (1969), Raging Bull (1980), True Confessions (1981) and The Right Stuff (1983). Chartoff later produced Ender's Game (2013) and Creed (2015).

He died at his home in Santa Monica, California, on 10 June 2015.
