Biography
John Refoua was an American film editor. He graduated from Oberlin College with a bachelor’s degree in economics and began his career in the early 1990s as an assistant editor on the television series Twin Peaks. He later worked on series including Dark Angel, Touched by an Angel and Law & Order before moving into feature films.
Refoua collaborated extensively with James Cameron, serving as an editor on Ghosts of the Abyss (2003) and the Avatar films. He shared an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing on Avatar (2009) with Cameron and Stephen E. Rivkin. His other credits include Olympus Has Fallen (2013), The Equalizer (2014), Southpaw (2015), The Magnificent Seven (2016), Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) and Geostorm (2017). He continued working on Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) until his death and received a posthumous editing credit on the film.
