Biography
Mads Dittmann Mikkelsen is a Danish actor. Born in Østerbro, Copenhagen, he trained as a dancer before studying acting at the Århus Theatre School and making his film debut in 1996.
He first gained prominence in Denmark for roles in the Pusher trilogy (1996, 2004), the series Rejseholdet (2000–2004), and films including Open Hearts (2002), The Green Butchers (2003), Adam's Apples (2005) and After the Wedding (2006). His international breakthrough came as Le Chiffre in Casino Royale (2006).
Mikkelsen has since appeared in Hollywood films such as King Arthur (2004), Clash of the Titans (2010), Doctor Strange (2016), Rogue One (2016), Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022), Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023) and Mufasa: The Lion King (2024). He is also known for the title role in the series Hannibal (2013–2015) and won the Cannes Best Actor award for The Hunt (2012). He is married to choreographer Hanne Jacobsen.
