Maggie Gyllenhaal is an American actress and filmmaker. She was born on 16 November 1977 in New York City and is the daughter of filmmakers Stephen Gyllenhaal and Naomi Foner, and the sister of actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

She began acting in the late 1990s and appeared in films including Donnie Darko (2001), Secretary (2002), Adaptation. (2002), Mona Lisa Smile (2003), The Dark Knight (2008) and Crazy Heart (2009). Gyllenhaal made her feature directorial debut with The Lost Daughter (2021). She wrote, directed and produced The Bride! (2026), a film inspired by Bride of Frankenstein.
