Biography
Marcia Lucas was an American film editor. She is best known for her work on the original Star Wars trilogy, serving as one of the editors on Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983). She also edited American Graffiti (1973) and three films by Martin Scorsese: Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), Taxi Driver (1976) and New York, New York (1977).
Born Marcia Lou Griffin on 4 October 1945 in Modesto, California, she began her career as a film librarian and assistant editor before working on features. She was married to filmmaker George Lucas from 1969 to 1983. With co-editors Paul Hirsch and Richard Chew, she won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Star Wars and received an earlier nomination for American Graffiti.
Lucas died on 27 May 2026 in Rancho Mirage, California.
