Biography
Marit Allen was an English costume designer and former fashion journalist. Born in Cheshire, she began her career in 1961 at Queen magazine before moving to British Vogue, where she edited the 'Young Idea' pages until 1973. She later established a journalism degree course at Central Saint Martins.
Allen entered film costume design after being approached by director Nicolas Roeg. Her early credit included wardrobe for Julie Christie on Don't Look Now (1973), credited as Marit Lieberson. She went on to design costumes for more than 30 films, including Little Shop of Horrors (1986), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), Eyes Wide Shut (1999), Brokeback Mountain (2005) and La Vie en Rose (2007). She frequently collaborated with Roeg and Ang Lee.
Allen received an Academy Award nomination for La Vie en Rose, along with BAFTA, Emmy and Costume Designers Guild nominations. She died in Sydney, Australia, in 2007.
