Biography
Martin Childs is a British production designer. Born on 1 July 1954 in Bedford, Bedfordshire, he trained initially in architecture before entering film and television design.
He began his career at the BBC and later worked as an art director on films including Kenneth Branagh's Henry V (1989) and Much Ado About Nothing (1993). Childs made his debut as production designer on Mrs Brown (1997) and Shakespeare in Love (1998), the latter earning him the Academy Award for Best Art Direction (shared with set decorator Jill Quertier).
His other credits as production designer include From Hell (2001), The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2008), Mr. Holmes (2015) and all six seasons of the series The Crown (2016–2023). He was appointed MBE in 2002 for services to the film industry and received an Academy Award nomination for Quills (2000).
