Biography

Rachel Talalay is an American director, producer and writer. She was born in Chicago and graduated from Yale University with a degree in mathematics. She began working in film as a production assistant on John Waters' Polyester (1981) and contributed to the first four A Nightmare on Elm Street films before making her directorial debut with Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991).

Talalay directed the feature films Ghost in the Machine (1993) and Tank Girl (1995). Since the 1990s she has worked extensively in television, directing episodes of series including Ally McBeal, Supernatural, The Flash, Riverdale, Superman & Lois and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. She directed the Sherlock episode 'The Six Thatchers' (2017) and multiple episodes of Doctor Who (2005), including several of Peter Capaldi's series finales.

Talalay was a professor of film production at the University of British Columbia until 2020.
