Biography

Mark Gatiss is an English actor, screenwriter and producer. Born on 17 October 1966 in Sedgefield, County Durham, he studied Theatre Arts at Bretton Hall College.

He co-created and performed in the BBC comedy series The League of Gentlemen (1999–2002). With Steven Moffat he co-created Sherlock (2010–2017), in which he played Mycroft Holmes, and wrote episodes of Doctor Who. Other screen roles include appearances in Game of Thrones (2014–2017) and The Favourite (2018). He played Ted Gilbert in the film The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025).

Gatiss has received a BAFTA TV Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, a Peabody Award and two Laurence Olivier Awards. He is married to actor Ian Hallard.
