Biography
René Hubert (1895–1976) was a Swiss costume designer. He studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in St Gallen and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and worked in theatre and fashion before entering film in the mid-1920s.
He designed costumes for films from 1925 to 1964, including State Fair (1945), Lifeboat (1944), My Darling Clementine (1946), And Then There Were None (1945), Heaven Can Wait (1943), Things to Come (1936), Broken Arrow (1950), Anastasia (1956), Jane Eyre (1943) and The Pride of the Yankees (1942). He often designed for Gloria Swanson and received Academy Award nominations for Désirée (1954, shared with Charles LeMaire) and The Visit (1964).
