Biography
Robert Crais is an American novelist and former screenwriter. Born on 20 June 1953, he moved to Hollywood in 1976 and began writing for television series including Baretta, Quincy, M.E., Hill Street Blues (1981), Cagney & Lacey (1982) and Miami Vice (1984). He received an Emmy nomination for an episode of Hill Street Blues.
In the mid-1980s Crais turned to novels. His first book, The Monkey's Raincoat (1987), introduced the private investigator Elvis Cole and won the Anthony Award for Best Paperback Original and the Macavity Award for Best First Novel. He has since written numerous best-selling crime novels featuring Cole and his partner Joe Pike, as well as stand-alone thrillers such as Hostage (2005). Crais lives in Los Angeles.
