Biography

Stan Lathan is an American television and film director and producer. He began his career in public television in the late 1960s, directing programmes such as Say Brother and Black Journal, before moving into network television.

Lathan directed episodes of series including Sanford & Son, Hill Street Blues (1981), Miami Vice (1984) and Remington Steele. He directed the feature film Beat Street (1984) and partnered with Russell Simmons to create the HBO series Def Comedy Jam. He has directed numerous stand-up comedy specials for Dave Chappelle.

Lathan has received three Primetime Emmy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a Tony Award and a Peabody Award.
