Biography
Stephen Woolley is an English film producer and occasional director. Born in London in 1956, he began his career in cinema exhibition, working as an usher before programming and running the Scala Cinema in London. In the early 1980s he co-founded Palace Video and Palace Pictures with Nik Powell, which distributed and produced independent films.
Woolley has produced films including The Crying Game (1992), for which he received an Academy Award nomination, Interview with the Vampire (1994), Michael Collins (1996), Carol (2015) and Living (2022). He has frequently collaborated with director Neil Jordan and runs the production company Number 9 Films with his partner Elizabeth Karlsen. In 2019 he received the BAFTA award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema.
