Biography
Stuart Dryburgh is a British-born New Zealand cinematographer. Born in London in 1952, his family emigrated to New Zealand in 1961. He earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Auckland in 1977 before entering the film industry, initially working as a gaffer from 1979 to 1985 on New Zealand and international productions.
He began shooting as a cinematographer in 1985 and gained prominence through collaborations with director Jane Campion on the television miniseries An Angel at My Table (1990) and the feature The Piano (1993), for which he received an Academy Award nomination. Other notable New Zealand credits include Once Were Warriors (1994). He has since worked extensively in the United States on films such as Bridget Jones's Diary (2001), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013), The Great Wall (2016) and Gifted (2017), as well as the series Fallout (2024). He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers and is based in New York.
