Biography
Thurl Ravenscroft (1914–2005) was an American actor and bass singer. He is best known as the voice of Tony the Tiger in Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes advertisements for more than five decades, and for his uncredited performance of “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” in the 1966 television special How the Grinch Stole Christmas!.
Ravenscroft provided voices and singing for numerous Disney animated films. He voiced Al the Alligator in Lady and the Tramp (1955) and appeared as part of the singing group The Mellomen in the same film. Other Disney credits include roles in Pinocchio (1940), Cinderella (1950), Alice in Wonderland (1951), One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961), The Sword in the Stone (1963), Mary Poppins (1964) and The Aristocats (1970).
He trained at the Otis Art Institute after moving to California in 1933 and formed the vocal quartet The Mellomen. Ravenscroft’s voice also featured in Disneyland attractions including Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion.
