Biography
Tom Rolf (1931–2014) was a Swedish-born film editor who worked on more than 40 feature films over a career spanning five decades. Born Ernst Ragnar Rolf in Stockholm, he later became an American citizen and was active in the United States from the 1960s onwards.
Rolf is best known for his work on Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver (1976), for which he shared a BAFTA nomination for Best Editing, and Philip Kaufman’s The Right Stuff (1983), for which he and his co-editors won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing. Other notable credits include Heat (1995), WarGames (1983), Jacob’s Ladder (1990), The Pelican Brief (1993) and The Horse Whisperer (1998).
He served two terms as president of the American Cinema Editors and five terms as a governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, representing the editing branch. Rolf received the ACE Career Achievement Award in 2003.
