Biography
Tony Pierce-Roberts is a British cinematographer. Born on 24 December 1945 in Birkenhead, England, he moved with his family to Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) at the age of 11. He began working in film at 15 with the Central African Film Unit and later joined the BBC in London, where he spent 13 years, rising to cameraman and photographing productions including the series Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (1979).
He is known for his work on Merchant Ivory productions, including Howards End (1992) and The Remains of the Day (1993). He received BAFTA Television Craft Awards for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and an episode of BBC2 Playhouse, and was nominated for Academy Awards for A Room with a View (1985) and Howards End. Other credits include Underworld (2003) and Vampire Academy (2014).
