Biography
William Horberg is an American film and television producer. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he owned and operated the Sandburg Movie Theatre from 1979 to 1981. He began his industry career in 1987 as a creative executive at Paramount Pictures, later becoming Senior Vice President of Production, where he oversaw development on films including Ghost (1990) and The Godfather Part III (1990).
In 1993 Horberg joined Mirage Enterprises, the company of Sydney Pollack, producing Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993), Sliding Doors (1998), The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), Cold Mountain (2003) and The Quiet American (2002), several in collaboration with director Anthony Minghella. He also created and produced the Showtime anthology series Fallen Angels (1993–1995).
Later, as President of Production at Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, Horberg executive produced Lars and the Real Girl (2007), Milk (2008), Synecdoche, New York (2008) and The Queen's Gambit (2020). He has served as chair emeritus of the Producers Guild of America on the East coast and received a Primetime Emmy Award for The Queen's Gambit.
