Biography
Wynn Thomas is an American production designer. He studied theatre design at Boston University and worked in theatre before entering film as an assistant art director.
Thomas has a long-term collaboration with director Spike Lee, designing films including She's Gotta Have It (1986), Do the Right Thing (1989) and Malcolm X (1992). Other credits include Wag the Dog (1997), A Beautiful Mind (2001), Mars Attacks! (1996), Inside Man (2006) and Hidden Figures (2016). He has also worked with directors Ron Howard, Tim Burton and Robert De Niro.
He has been described as the first African-American production designer in motion pictures. In 2025 he received an honorary Academy Award for his body of work.
