Biography
Yoshio Tsuchiya was a Japanese actor. He was born on 18 May 1927 in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture, and died on 8 February 2017.
Tsuchiya appeared in numerous films by Akira Kurosawa, including Seven Samurai (1954) as Rikichi, Yojimbo (1961) as Kohei, High and Low (1963) as Detective Murata, Throne of Blood (1957), Sanjuro (1962), The Hidden Fortress (1958), Red Beard (1965) as Dr. Handayû Mori and The Bad Sleep Well (1960). He also featured in several science-fiction films directed by Ishirō Honda, such as Godzilla Raids Again (1955) as Tajima, Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965) as the Controller of Planet X, Son of Godzilla (1967) as Furukawa and Destroy All Monsters (1968) as Dr. Otani.
His film debut came in 1952. Tsuchiya had a long-standing interest in science fiction and UFOs, and later returned to the Godzilla series in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991).
