Biography
Tomoyuki Tanaka (also credited as Tanaka Tomoyuki or Yūkō Tanaka) was a Japanese film producer. Born in Osaka on 26 April 1910, he graduated from the economics department at Kansai University and joined Toho Studios in 1940. He remained with the studio for nearly sixty years and produced more than two hundred films.
Tanaka is best known as the originator of the Godzilla series, producing the first film in 1954 and continuing with most subsequent entries until Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995). He also produced six films directed by Akira Kurosawa, including Yojimbo (1961), Sanjuro (1962), High and Low (1963), Red Beard (1965) and Kagemusha (1980). Tanaka died in Tokyo on 2 April 1997.
