Biography

Zoe Swicord Kazan is an American actress, screenwriter and playwright. Born on 9 September 1983 in Los Angeles, she graduated from Yale University with a degree in theatre in 2005. She made her screen debut in 2003 and has appeared in films including Revolutionary Road (2008), It's Complicated (2009), Ruby Sparks (2012), The Big Sick (2017) and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018). She played Millie Gately in Meek's Cutoff (2011).

Kazan wrote the screenplay for Ruby Sparks (2012), in which she also starred, and co-wrote Wildlife (2018) with her partner, actor and director Paul Dano. She created, wrote and served as showrunner on the Netflix limited series East of Eden (2026), adapted from the John Steinbeck novel. Her grandfather was the director Elia Kazan.

She has performed in several Broadway productions, including revivals of Come Back, Little Sheba (2008) and Doubt: A Parable (2024).
