Biography
Adolph Deutsch was a British-American composer, conductor and arranger. Born in London on 20 October 1897, he emigrated to the United States in 1911 and settled in Buffalo, New York. He trained at the Royal Academy of Music and began his career as a silent-film accompanist before moving into Broadway orchestration in the 1920s and 1930s.
Deutsch joined Hollywood in the late 1930s, working first for Warner Bros and later MGM. He composed scores for films including The Maltese Falcon (1941), Some Like It Hot (1959) and The Apartment (1960), and served as music director or arranger on musicals such as Annie Get Your Gun (1950), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) and Oklahoma! (1955). He won three Academy Awards for his work on those musicals.
Deutsch died in Palm Desert, California, on 1 January 1980.
