Biography

Jack Lemmon was an American actor. Born John Uhler Lemmon III on 8 February 1925 in Newton, Massachusetts, he died on 27 June 2001 in Los Angeles.

He played Jerry (Daphne) in the 1959 comedy Some Like It Hot, directed by Billy Wilder. Lemmon won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Mister Roberts (1955) and the Academy Award for Best Actor for Save the Tiger (1973). Other notable films include The Apartment (1960), Days of Wine and Roses (1962), The Odd Couple (1968) and Glengarry Glen Ross (1992). He frequently collaborated with Wilder and with actor Walter Matthau.
