Biography
Arthur Charles Miller was an American cinematographer. Born in Roslyn, New York, on 8 July 1895, he began working in film at the age of 13 as an assistant to Fred J. Balshofer. He served as cinematographer on the 1914 serial The Perils of Pauline and later held a long-term contract with Fox Film Corporation from 1932.
Miller received seven Academy Award nominations for cinematography and won three times, for How Green Was My Valley (1941), The Song of Bernadette (1943) and Anna and the King of Siam (1946). Among his other credits are The White Parade (1934), The Ox-Bow Incident (1943), Gentleman's Agreement (1947) and The Gunfighter (1950). He retired in 1951 and served as president of the American Society of Cinematographers. Miller died in Hollywood, California, on 13 July 1970.
