Biography
Carlo Simi (7 November 1924 – 26 November 2000) was an Italian architect, production designer and costume designer. He worked regularly with Sergio Leone and Sergio Corbucci on spaghetti westerns.
His credits include costume design on For a Few Dollars More (1965) and both costume design and production design on The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) and Once Upon a Time in the West (1968). He built the El Paso town set in Almería for For a Few Dollars More, which still exists as the tourist attraction Mini Hollywood, and designed the Sad Hill cemetery for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Simi had an uncredited acting role as the bank manager in For a Few Dollars More.
He received the Nastro d'Argento for best production design in 1985 and a David di Donatello for best production design in 1992. A posthumous Leone in Memoriam award was given in 2018.
