Biography

Dante Spinotti is an Italian cinematographer. He was born in Tolmezzo on 22 August 1943.

He began his career in Italy, working for RAI television after time spent in Kenya with his uncle, a cinematographer. Spinotti moved to the United States in 1986 and formed a long association with director Michael Mann, beginning with Manhunter (1986). He photographed The Last of the Mohicans (1992) and Heat (1995) for Mann, winning a BAFTA Award for the former.

Spinotti has collaborated frequently with Brett Ratner. Among his other credits are L.A. Confidential (1997) and The Insider (1999), for both of which he received Academy Award nominations.
